About
Hi, my name is Jaco. I’m a good natured and somewhat eclectic person. I have returned not long ago after spending three and a half years living and working as a teacher and educator in the Southwest of China. It was an experience of a lifetime. My interests focus on Astronomy, Linux, Chinese philosophy, culture, and blogging. I enjoy reading, writing, learning, art, and music. I’m new to the world of blogging and am looking forward to the journey.
The goal of this blog is to bring fresh perspectives and views on blogging, blogging tips, how to write effectively, more productively, and the blogosphere. I’m new to blogging and have a lot to learn, I’m reading everyday to learn as much as I can about blogging and how to better the blogging experience. I’m looking forward to sharing my views with all of you. Thanks, and welcome!

Hello, Joe.
How kind of you to set up this blog. I can use this information beside Timethief’s so I can become a better blogger. I’ve bookmarked you. Keep it going.
Hi There Pienbiscuits. Thank you for the kind words and encouragement. The blog is still a work in progress, and I will be publishing more content in the coming day’s and weeks. I’m happy you like it, and find it helpful. Actually I am inspired by Timethief as she’s a prolific authority on the subject of blogging as well
as spiritual practices, and conscious living. I’m indebted to her!

Hi there Joe, I really like your blog! Lots of great information and tips that make it easy to be inspired. This is one I will definately be recommending to others simply because its easy to read and understand and there is a real niche for that kind of blog here. Best of luck to you. I will be back often.
@Tfockler60 I’m pleased you like the blog. It’s still a work in progress. Thank you for your encouraging words. If there is something you would like to see here, please feel free to say, as I’m always open to new ideas and suggestions.
Best Wishes!
Hi Joe, I am certainly no expert on what to write about, but I think your new idea could be not only good for your soul (although difficult) but helpful to many.
Did you know how to read /write/speak Chinese? If you can do some of this, maybe tie in some of your thoughts with respect to social media websites that you see from China and provide some thoughts for us. In terms of if there are differences in trends for blog writing style.
One thing I have noticed so far, is some of the English-language blog sites written in China, don’t receive much comment or cryptic comments. It leads one in North America to believe that there is still underlying worry that blog comments might be monitored by govn’t there, etc. You know what I mean.
@Jean
I’m so delighted you brought this up! I have thought about doing an article on blogging behind The Great Firewall. I do however need to do some thorough research on it, I briefly Googled the idea, and found some interesting results. Do you think it might be useful, and a good idea? I can’t really read or write Chinese, I did learn to speak some Mandarin Chinese, and the local Chongqing dialect. It was essential for my everyday living while I was there. I’ll forever cherish my memories of living in such a great country as China, I love the people, language and culture. People don’t realize just how beautiful Mandarin Chinese is, as it’s not considered one of the “romantic” languages. I however think it to be a beautiful language with great intricacies, as I was very moved at hearing classic Chinese poetry being read, and even Western poetry translated and read. An Australian friend I met while there studied Chinese and told me one cannot fully understand the culture without knowing the language. I think that is true to a great extent. One of the stages of culture shock I met with was not knowing enough of the language to assimilate and integrate more into the society. I have a great respect and love for the Chinese and China.
I still maintain correspondence with my former Chinese girlfriend Gao Xiao Hui(what a heartbreaking experience leaving her was!) she is very active on Sina, Netease, and 163.com. I thought about asking her to translate my posts into Chinese and post them there. I’m also very interested in what the renown artist Ai Wei Wei is doing with Twitter and various blogs he maintains, which are periodically shutdown by the government. There was a outstanding story done about him several months back on CNN. Many people do not stop to think that the vast majority of Netizens are from Mainland China. I recall too how difficult my Internet experience was from behind The Great Firewall trying to access sites outside The Mainland. I welcome your feedback, suggestions, and ideas on pursuing this further as a topic of interest. Rather than post my email address here on my blog you can get it from Timethief. I would look forward to your correspondence in pursuing this idea.
Wishing you continued success with your blogging and in life…..zai jian….
As a side note I often use Google translate for reading and translating my writing into Chinese. While blogging and commenting are met with censorship in the PRC, many of the Netizens there are able to get around this with a little Internet savy. I fully understand what you mean about the Western perception!

Hi,
It would be great if you opened a Cc:Everybody account (cceverybody.com) and give us (your readers) a way of emailing you publicly. This way the work you put into answering those emails won’t go to waste in the inbox, and we can all read about your views and opinions about the topic we send you – what do you say?
Did you change your blog’s theme? This one is refreshing!
